FAQ’s

Here are some of the common questions we are asked at Chalk Springs. Please feel free to contact us if you need any further information about the fishery or the services available.

What days are you open and when does the fishing start and end?

The fishery is open for tickets every day of the year, except Christmas Day and New Year`s Day when we are closed, or unless the fishery is fully booked with a corporate or club day. We open at 8.00am and the fishing is from 8.30am until dusk. Closing times are posted at the fishery.

Should I book or just turn up?

You are free to just turn up, although pre-booking is always advisable as we operate on a first come – first served basis, as spaces are limited. Also, the fishery is fully-booked on certain days with corporate or club days.

We maintain a complete calendar of dates that are already fully booked in our weekly catch section.

Are there a choice of tickets?

We have a selection of ticket options including full day, half day and evening tickets. We offer discounts for juniors, novices and `father & son` tickets, as well as some excellent value deals for block/season tickets. Please ask about our new `membership` tickets.

Sorry, I`m afraid we do not operate any `catch and release` tickets.

Please see our prices and booking page for more details on prices and block/memberships.

Can I bring my dog / children / guests along with me?

Sorry, we do not allow dogs on the fishery. Well behaved guests and children are more than welcome to come and watch however.

I am not a fisherman, but I would love to purchase some fresh trout, can I turn up to buy some?

We can supply whole trout to callers at the fishery. Please allow plenty of time for us to net them from our stock ponds, especially at weekends and other busy periods. Feel free to order in advance. Fresh trout are not available at all times of the year – please telephone for availability and orders.

Are there any discounts?

Discounts are available for the following:

Shared novice ticket: A fisherman and novice sharing the 3, 4 or 5 fish limits.

Junior tickets for the under 16’s (10% off any day or half-day ticket.)

Group or Club bookings – see corporate/club day page.

Our policy

Our aim is to provide the highest quality in still-water fly fishing for trout. We pride ourselves in having created a relaxed and friendly atmosphere which has become the trademark of Chalk Springs.

The lakes are stocked daily with brown and rainbow trout, reared on our own fish farm. The average fish size ranges from 2lbs to 5lbs with a generous number of fish into double figures. The stocking rates are designed to give everybody an excellent, yet challenging, day’s fishing and this results in the average weekly catch rate usually in the region of 80% and above.
